Background

Vast Ventures (Bristol, UK) acquired a 100% stake in Root River Hardwoods (Minnesota, USA), a vertically-integrated timber manufacturer with revenues of around $13m.

Assignment

Search for a CEO to report to Vast and the Board, scaling the business to a $100m revenue organisation over the next 10 years. 

The role required someone to aid in the smooth transition from RRH being a family-run business of 30+ years into its new ownership structure.

It required someone incredibly hands on to implement and scale processes across manufacturing and operations, finance, and sales and marketing, as well as maintain a critical strategic lens through long term planning, organic growth and synergistic acquisitions, and develop the next generation of leaders within the business.

Process

Following our Discovery, we agreed a detailed recruitment timeline spanning 6 weeks which completely utilised our Attraction and Shortlisting function.

After presenting our shortlist, which progressed to online interviews, we were able to coordinate the hiring party’s arrival in Minnesota from the UK with the final, face-to-face interview in Minneapolis. An offer was subsequently made.

Markes International Ltd Group (~£25m revenue) specialises in the design, manufacture and sale of advanced instrumentation and technology for the analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and are part of the Schauenburg International Group - operating a portfolio of technology focused companies based in Germany.  

Assignment

Replace the outgoing Finance Director with a newly-created, scaled-up CFO hire. Reporting directly to the CEO and based at the Bridgend head office, the role required national and international travel, and is an integral member of the SLT and the wider management team with a remit to help shape the future direction of the business.
